Together we can succeed
Conserving resources means avoiding food waste wherever possible or reducing it to a minimum. Coppenrath & Wiese shows how this can be achieved in production at the site in Mettingen.
Turning leftover peel into jam
Coppenrath & Wiese processes a lot of apples every day – cut into cubes or slices as required. But what happens to the peel? Until a few years ago, they were thrown away. But that is now different: employees from production and technology have jointly developed a system that produces apple pulp from the peel residues. This is used for special fillings anyway. Just like the apple jam, which is also produced from leftover peel.
The result is impressive: The two products no longer need to be bought in addition and Coppenrath & Wiese is celebrating a reduction in peel leftovers from 25% to 5%.
A really good example of how food waste can be reduced. We are pleased that we have already been able to place this exciting topic in the specialised and general press on many occasions.
